360F coffee was born and inspired by the artisanal methods of roasting, and one particular transformation occurs around 360 to 380 Fahrenheit. This is commonly known in the world of coffee roasting as “the first crack” and can be identified by a popping sound, marking the beginning of a lighter roast. At “the first crack”, a large amount of the coffee’s moisture has been evaporated, this moisture forms steam, and then pressure, that forces the beans to crack open allowing the beans to increase in size.

Green coffee beans are heated in a small rotating drum for about 8 to 12 minutes of intense heat. The Roasting process is what produces the characteristic flavor of coffee by causing the green coffee beans to change in taste. Between 360F and 380F, the sugars and amino acids in the coffee react at a rapid pace to create the final flavor, during this period the coffee develops delightful aromas of roasted nuts, malts, chocolate, fruit, berries, flowers, and more.
