Coffee Blends are a delicious combination of several roasted coffee grains from different parts of the world. The fusion of various types of coffee led to the development of a specific mix known as coffee blends. 

The word blend comes from the English language and means “mixture.” Over several decades, the term has expanded in many countries, becoming a true family tradition in many towns. 

Coffee blends: how to prepare them?

To prepare a blend, roasters need to overcome the taste of the coffee obtained after roasting the original coffee beans separately. Dare to experiment with flavors by making your coffee blends: if you mix two to five beans of different origins to achieve the ideal cup. 

  • Choose a grain with a sweet base.
  • Determine the acidity in a cup.
  • Complete the mix with citrus or floral-based coffee.
  • Proceed to roast the coffee.

Comparative advantages of coffee blends

Recipes with two or more types of coffee create an exclusive and balanced drink, which is prepared according to the culture of each region. There are also custom blends that contain, for example, two Arabica coffees grown in different areas. 

Additionally, apart from offering consumers their favorite flavor all year round, blends perform other functions:

  • Allow brands to promote and market an exclusive and novel product.
  • They are adapted to the preferences of specific customer demands or customized preparation procedures.
  • Companies may substitute coffee beans from one mixture for another with similar characteristics should the price of an originating species rise.

The origin of coffee grains determines their flavor. For example, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Costa Rica export very aromatic beans with mild acidity, while Mexico, Brazil, and Colombia produce sweeter coffee.

Other factors can alter the taste of coffee blends: the land where coffee is grown, storage procedures, the quality of roasting, general treatment of the product, among others. It is recommended to do tests to observe the reaction of the grains when subjected to high temperatures or extreme climates. This allows roasters to check the flavor after roasting and their degree of solubility.

The curious thing about these drinks is that you will never get two equal in the market. The reason is that several variables influence the final product, such as the species, the type of variety, height, harvest time, climate, processing, and quality of the roasting, making each cup of coffee a complex flavor, unique, and special.
