Preparing a coffee with aroma and exquisite flavors seems like a simple task, but the truth is that there are techniques to achieve the best profile of the cup.

A key requirement to obtain a dream coffee is to make a good extraction. You do not need many tools to do this, as you apply the method and the appropriate conditions according to a series of parameters that we show you below.

Coffee extraction: follow these tips!

Coffee

  • Buy the amount of ground coffee you will consume to preserve typical coffee’s freshness, stability, flavor, and aroma.
  • If you plan to grind the coffee, try not to do it so irregularly.
  • If you don’t have a scale, you can use an 8-12 g measuring spoon to determine the amount of coffee or at least have a reference.

Water

  • Avoid waters with earthy or astringent textures. Choose fresh water with a smooth texture and a sweet taste.
  • To measure the water, you can use glasses or cups that have marked the quantities or volumes of water up to 330 ml. Calculate based on the desired amount and use the rest to clean the filter.
  • It is known that the boiling temperature of water is about 100 °C, allowing you to establish the ideal temperature at which you can use the water when it starts bubbling before boiling.

Coffee preparation

  • Acquire the ground coffee and dose the amount with a spoon or measurer.
  • Measure the water with a jar or cup and calculate based on the boiling point as a temperature reference.
  • The standard measure of a coffee recipe is 50, 60, or 70 g of coffee x 1 L of water.

Pre-infusion

  • Moisten the coffee bed with enough quantity, so the coffee does not remain dry or soaked.

Pours

  • There are multiple ways to pour water, for example: with circular movements, from different heights, and at various speeds.
  • Two to three long, controlled pours after pre-infusion are recommended.

Pay attention to intuition

  • Test your senses when preparing coffee.
  • Empiricism will allow you to detect any error. This daily contact will create a special relationship with coffee.
  • Your instinct will serve to prepare the best coffee and enjoy a unique sensory experience during the coffee extraction.
  • The passion you put into the preparation and the will to do it well is essential to having a good cup of coffee.
